Product Description
The Kelty Gunnison 2.1 backpacking tent offers an excellent set of features at an affordable price. With two doors, two vestibules, internal storage pockets and gear loft loops, the Gunnison 2.1 is a whole lot of tent for the money you'll spend. Hubbed DAC Featherlite NSL aluminum poles offer strength and stability to the Gunnison 2.1. Lightweight corner supports help to eliminate pole rotation and increase overall strength considerably. Color coded clip construction makes the tent a cinch to set up. The freestanding design allows you to pitch the Gunnison 2.1 and then move it around your campsite to find the optimum position, eliminating an uncomfortable night's sleep over an exposed root or rock. The Gunnison 2.1 provides 37 sq. ft. of interior space and boasts 2 doors and 2 large vestibules. Offering a combined 24 sq. ft. of exterior storage space, the dual vestibules are perfect for stowing gear and muddy boots. The two doors provide each occupant of the Gunnison 2.1 with an individual entrance and exit, eliminating the need to climb over each other when nature calls in the middle of the night. Sidewall vents, a mesh ceiling and fly vents provide great airflow, preventing condensation build-up on the interior of the Gunnison 2.1. A PU polyester-taffeta rainfly provides excellent weather and UV protection. Maximizing livability, especially in foul weather, welded rainfly windows provide a view of the outside. Kelty's patented ArcEdge construction lifts the floor seams up off the ground, eliminating potential for leaks. An optional footprint (sold separately) further protects the Kelty Gunnison 2.1 against ground water, roots and rocks.

Amazon.com Product Description
Redesigned with improved features, the Kelty Gunnison 2.1 freestanding tent offers quick, two-pole setup and spacious quarters for two. Weighing just under 5 pounds, the three-season Gunnison 2.1 provides 37 square feet of floor area as well as over 20 square feet from the dual vestibule areas (10.2 + 10.2)--great for storing gear and wet, muddy boots and clothing. The tent features extensive mesh at the top as well as two doors and a lower mesh vent for an aerodynamic venting system to regulate temperature and reduce condensation. Other features include internal storage pockets, side-release buckle tent-fly connection, noiseless zipper pulls that resist jingling when it's windy, and color-coded clip construction with DAC Featherlite NSL poles.

Computer designed and tested, Featherlite NSL poles are specifically engineered for use in lightweight tents where strength is critical. A "tapered" end of the pole has a smaller diameter that allows it to slide into the larger pole end. This system reduces the overall weight of a pole 12-18 percent, depending on pole and section size. The clip construction provides great fly separation and increased air movement, and it makes it easier to set-up your tent but offers less strength than full-length sleeves. The clips connecting the poles to the tent are color-coded so set-up is easy and quick in low light conditions.

Kelty's ArcEdge construction lifts floor seams up off the ground, preventing water seepage around the floor and wall seams. Taped seams on the floor and the rainfly ensure that the tent is protected from moisture and wet weather. The ITW LineLoc guyline adjuster, a Ladderloc for cord, creates an easy way to adjust and keep cord taut. It functions just like a standard Ladderloc would on webbing--pull the cord to tighten, lift the ergonomically designed thumb tab to release. The newly designed DAC Jake's Foot stakeouts make tent set-up quicker and puts less stress on your tent poles.

4 out of 5 stars Great tent!   March 10, 2010
Bryan (Atlanta, GA USA)
I bought this tent a couple weeks ago and just took it out for a two night backpacking trip. The tent was a breeze to set up. It was very roomy. I was the only person in it and had plenty of room to sleep and store my equipment. I'm avg height and had no problem sitting up in the tent - lots of head room. It didn't rain, so I can only comment that it worked well in dry weather. There was no condensation on the inside of the tent, which, along with needing more room, was a concern of mine. I loved the ease of entry on either side of the tent. I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 for two reasons: 1) as mentioned in prior reviews, the floor seems a bit thin and 2) packed in it's normal sack, it's a bit long and extends past the sides of my backpack. But, for the size of the tent it's not too big of a deal; it is about 5 inches longer than my old tent, so maybe just need to get used to it. I would definitely recommend this tent. One person has a ton of space and it looks like two could be comfortable in it. One of the rare 'two-man' tents that looks like it could sleep two and not be too cramped.

5 out of 5 stars If I could I'd give it a 6 out of 5 stars!!!!   February 10, 2010

Bought a Kelty Gunnison 2.1 because it was on sale and I've had good luck with Kelty gear in the past. On our second outing with the tent we encountered a severe summer storm. For about 24 hours we were pounded by incredible strong gusts of wind, sheets of rain, and dime size hail. We were camped on a rock bluff at 8,300 feet, totally exposed to the storm. After 8 hours of the storm the couple we backpacked with had to move to our tent as the wind started to tear theirs apart. Their were four of us in the "cabin" part of the tent and nearly all of our gear in the side storage area. At some parts of the night the wind got so strong that the walls of our tent were bent over on top of us. I couldn't believe that the poles could handle that kind of pressure. In the morning our tent was still standing and the other tent was ripped and broken beyond repair. We never did find some parts of their tent. Ours was still standing like new, both us and our gear were still dry. The only thing that was damaged by the storm were the tent stakes that bent by the force of the wind. Amazing tent. If your considering purchasing this tent, I suggest you do so. I will never buy another tent that isn't a Kelty.

5 out of 5 stars Very Nice Lightweight Tent   September 5, 2009

I selected this tent for the size and reasonably light weight. For two people, the backpacking weight is just a bit over 2-1/2 pounds per person which is not bad considering the size and large dual vestibules. It is a bit larger than most comparably dome tents inside which is a plus if you are tall or wish to stow some gear inside the tent. The gear vestibules on both sides are also larger than most, and being able to enter and stow gear on both sides is a plus as you don't have to step over someone else to get in or out. The tent is well constructed and goes up quickly. With the dual vents on top and generous screening I have not had any significant problems with condensation, and the full fly ensures you will remain dry even in severe weather. The only negative I've noticed is the snap at the bottom of the fly zipper, which can be a pain to close from the inside of the tent, but this is a relatively minor issue. Overall a great buy!

The main issue with this tent is the poor quality of the mosquito netting which comprises a good deal of the tent. This is the first tent that I have owned where the netting getting pulls in it. I am quite careful with my gear and was surprised after a few uses to have pulls. The design is good and set up is easy.
