About ABO Gear ABO (Australian Beach Outdoor) began in 1995, with the humble goal of finding a solution to the common beach towel. The company called its first product the ABO mat--an oversized cotton mat with four stakes to prevent it from blowing away in the wind which folded into a convenient fanny pack. This initial product launch led to other popular items, such as beach tents, picnic blankets, beach hammocks, and more. In developing new products, the company's first aim is always to create gear that minimizes ABO's carbon footprint. ABO gear remains a fast-growing company with products in the beach, outdoor, pet, gift, and travel goods market.

Don't leave it outside very long November 18, 2009 D. Silva (Rancho Cordova, CA) The product is okay. Easy to carry, but really difficult to set up for one person.
I left the shelter up for 3 months in my yard hoping to relax the material and make set up easier. The sun and pole stress destroyed the material where the pole stress was the greatest. So for me it was only good for one season.
broke within a day November 6, 2009 Card Caller As some other reviewers said, it took several people to set it up the first time: it needs a fair bit of strength to stretch the fabric enough to completely insert the support poles. It worked well for a day or so, but on an only moderately windy beach (Holden Beach, NC), one of the support poles broke within a day, rendering the shade unusable.
Nice construction October 24, 2009 F. Carter (Akron, Ohio) Product is exactly as described. I have only setup once.
Did not get to use it at planned. Product arrived later than expected, so I did not get to use as expected.
Failed catastrophically at the beach, unfortunately September 18, 2009 Nicholas A. Barendt (Cleveland, OH USA) I bought this for a family vacation on the North Carolina beach (Holden Beach, NC). I tested setting it up and breaking it down in the backyard at home and found it pretty easy. On the beach, with a little wind, though, it became a two-person job, which is understandable.
It worked well for about 4 hours, and then the wind picked up slightly The nylon shell holding one of the shock-corded supports tore open, and the one of the fiberglass support segments split in half, collapsing the entire shade in a spectacular failure. Fortunately no one was inside at the time. Other shelters on the beach seemed to stand up with little difficulty, so I do not think the wind speed was extreme by any measure.
So, I like the design as well as the ease of set up and tear down, but it is not strong enough for beach use.
Don't expect a response September 13, 2009 T. Culpepper (Oklahoma City, OK United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought one this spring for summer at the beach and test setup in the living room with no problems. During the actual use setup one of the sewn-in ring-loops on the corner completely ripped off making the shelter useless. After vacation contacted ABO three twice by email but never received any response (not even a "you're out of the return window" response). Buy at your own risk, I will not give them any more business.
