4 out of 5 stars Once it's up, it's great   February 3, 2010
Rosh (Near Philadelphia)
This is a great product for longer trips. Provides well needed shade on many a campsite. It could use 2 people to set up and move around, and takes more time than I would like to spend on set up and brakedown. Parts could be better labeled to save time. That said, I still never go on a camping trip without it!

4 out of 5 stars Awesome Canopy   October 7, 2009

We chose this canopy to use at the beach for shade, privacy, and to hopefully prevent our toddler from wandering away. We selected it because reviews for pop up canopies said their legs were flimsy and easily bent. we were comfortable with 4 chairs, an ice chest, some beach bags, and a small blow up pool for our son. The beaches in Texas during summer are incredily HOT so we had to open the zipper sides to get a cross breeze.

It required 3 of us to set it up but two coordinated men who are handy and communicate well could probably do just as well. Someone tall (or a step ladder) will be needed to throw the canopy over the posts. After the first set up, we did not need to consult the directions to assemble it. This canopy has a relatively easy set up design going for it and did not have hundreds of parts. Make sure the zippers are closed before you stake the canopy. Otherwise they'll be harder to close.

The posts/legs on this canopy are sturdy yet lightweight and easy to assemble. The carry bag is nice but doesn't have a reinforced side or extra layer of fabric to make it stiff. Once you remove the cardboard box which previously held all the parts, the bag is floppy. This can make it harder to put everything back inside if you're on soft sand.

This canopy would be great for camping or hanging out somewhere that it will be set up all day. On the down side, we won't be taking it to a soccer game or somewhere that you want a quick set up and down...like a pop up canopy. We wouldn't take it to a tail gate either because there is no option to roll up all of the sides. The Coleman 15 x 15 Geosport Shade would be a better option for a tailgate and could probalby fit a picnic table without people feeling cramped.

It would be nice if...
1. the tips of the posts were color coded so a child could quickly sort the three different types of posts;
2. there were ties #on the inside# to tie the canopy to all five legs instead of just a couple #for windy settings;
3. the inside ties were longer (since you have to tie them like a shoelace# or wider with velcro closures;
4. the carrying bag was a bit deeper/wider to accomodate a haphazardly folded canopy.

All in all this canopy was easy to set up and figure out which legs connected to which and it worked great for what we needed...shade, privacy, and toddler containment at the beach.

3 out of 5 stars Good design with ample space but poor quality zippers   September 15, 2009

This was purchased for an extended family camping trip to be used as a bug-free eating and entertaining area.

What worked well:
- The generous foot print and headroom make for a very roomy space, with plenty of room for a large picnic table, extra chairs, and ten or more adults.
- The large screen panels provide an unencumbered view giving a sense that one is simply sitting outside rather than in a screen room.
- Holes in the wall-ceiling connector brackets are very handy for hanging items from s-hooks.
- The center ceiling bracket has another attachment point for hanging a battery powered lantern that provides good ambient lighting.
- Setup, once practiced in the backyard, is relatively straight forward.

What did not work well:
- The zippers on the two entry walls are very low quality and one failed after only a couple of days of frequent use forcing everyone to walk to the back of the screen room. Given that the entire point of a screen room is to keep insects out and to do so requires closing the zipper after each entry or exit, it is essential that the zippers be of suitable quality and durability. Coleman should have installed much better zippers.
- The overall fit of the screen room fabric over the frame could be improved as one cannot get the base of the walls to seal against the ground without stretching the material to the point of ripping. Again, this goes to the main purpose of a screen room - to keep insects out.

Overall I am pleased with the roominess of the screen room but its durability and longevity are questionable due to the poor quality zippers and over-stressing required to seal the walls to the ground. Needs improvement. I have not decided whether to return it or pay a local tent maker to install better quality zippers.

3 out of 5 stars OK but takes time to set up   September 1, 2009

This screen house is ok but takes a lot of time to set up. The screen is UV but this makes it harder to see. Everything looks a little blurry or cloudy when looking out. (The reason we wanted a screen house was for enjoying the scenery of a lake or tree area, without the bugs.) I expected it to be easier to set up. It does seem durable although for our South Dakota winds, we took it down when storms came.

5 out of 5 stars It's great   August 29, 2009
Melissa L. Harmon (Hopewell VA)
We used this on vacation and found it to be what all of the other written reviews had said. It is easy set up-it really did keep bugs out and it was easy take down. It fit our needs perfectly and we found 2 strings of rope lights made playing games at night very easy to do.
