3 out of 5 stars Excellent Trekking Pole, less than accomodating company.   March 12, 2010
J. Grimes (Virginia)
The only reason I do not give this trekking pole 5 stars is because after just a few weeks use, the rubber tip (that protects wooden floors, tile, etc.) from the metal tip wore out. That in and of itself would still not have been enough to lose this wonderful trekking pole a five star rating from me. Coleman, a company I usually hold in the highest regard, is the reason for the mediocre rating.

I called Coleman customer service to order a couple of replacement tips. I tend to use the trekking pole in areas where the rubber tip is the better choice. I was told by the customer service representative that Coleman did not have repalcement rubber tips because there was no demand for them. When I asked if my only oppion was to simply buy another trekking pole, she said it was. She offered no other assistance, and seemed to indicate that no replacement were available, anywhere.

It took me about a minute from the time I hung up with the Coleman customer service representative to find a replacement tip here on Amazon.com. I did a search for Trekking Poles and low and behold, a couple of replacement tips showed up. I ordered the Leki Rubber Fitness Walktip -- they come packaged 2 for about $10.00 (US) -- and hoped they would fit.

The Leki tips arrived today. I put one on my Coleman Trekking Pole, and it fits better and is much better designed than the original Coleman tip.

I will recommend this product with reservations. If you buy one, and are planning to use it where the rubber tip is the better choice, buy the Leki tips, too. That way you won't be without your trekking pole while you wait for the replacements that Coleman can't seem to get.

5 out of 5 stars What he wanted   January 9, 2010

Purchased this for my brother-in-law for Christmas. He asked specifically for this one since telescopes to various lengths. Have heard no complaints so guess does everything he thought it would.

4 out of 5 stars Trekking Pole   August 14, 2009

I bought this walking stick for my wife for her jaunts on the trails around the Bay Area. This is a must have for a serious hiker. It's light weight and adjustability makes it the perfect pole for many types of terrain. It is made well and is of sufficient strength to last many years and is quite useful for defence also. So far the only con about the Coleman Trekker Pole is the tip replacement. They aren't readily available. This is puzzeling because the design of the tip for different terrain conditions application is well thought out. It's just weird that replacement tips aren't more readily available.

1 out of 5 stars piece of crap hiking pole   July 12, 2009

Walked about one mile with two hiking poles. One pole pulled apart inside and would not hold its position. This product should not be sold.

3 out of 5 stars It's OK for the price, but the tip, ahhh the tip, definitly not good   April 12, 2009

I am a true trekking fan, i really go up hills very often, as a hobbie, so i wanted a decent low price pole (after all it is a hobbie). Anyways, beside all bad references about the "falling" tip for this pole, i decided to trust the brand (coleman) and the price. MISTAKE. My fellow reviewers were totally right. That tip is pure junk. but as a said, for the price i think it is OK for it to be junk. Very desappointed on "respected" brand Coleman thought.
