Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you're riding the rapids in a whitewater kayak or reading the barometric pressure trends when the fish are rising, the Brunton ADC Summit atmospheric data center gathers and records all the key weather conditions. The ADC Summit displays such information as current barometric pressure (in hPa, mb, or Hg), altitude, wind chill, and temperature, so you'll always know the current conditions and what's around the corner. Let your partners believe you're predicting the rain with some sort of mind-bending, supernatural powers. Brunton will take care of the science.

Current temperature and pressure measurements are just a couple of the ADC Summit's skills. The unit also analyzes temperature and pressure trends and displays the data from the past 24 hours. More importantly, it absorbs all the data and predicts the weather over the next 12 hours, so you'll know whether to turn back from a hike or trudge on. Users will also dig the ADC Summit's multiple alarms, including an alarm that sounds when storms approach, an altitude alarm (for when users ascend too quickly), and a wind chill alarm.

The ADC Summit is valuable from a training perspective as well, with an integrated chronograph, race timer, and ski run counter. Additional features include a water flow meter, a real-time clock with date information, and manual and automatic data logging. The waterproof ADC Summit, which runs on a single 3-volt lithium battery, can even transmit its information to a PC via its IR interface for further analysis. As a final bonus, the unit carries a two-year warranty.

What's in the Box?

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   January 8, 2010
"Waterman the Weatherman" (Kansas, Hays USA)
I had just a plain anemometer which I still have (more than a year now) and I decided that I needed to know more than just the wind speed. Turns out the features were indeed as advertised. It took me only 25 minutes to figure out the majority of the features (i.e: temperature history graph, barometric pressure graph, and storm alarms). This device can measure winds up to 89.4 miles an hour, which isn't shown on the specifications. The 12-hour forecast comes in handy when the barometer drops, and will beep if "Stormy" weather is predicted (The storm alarm must be turned on, simply by accessing the barometer feature, pressing "mode" for 2 seconds, and then turning it either on or off with the "set" button). The data log feature is also handy to have. Not to bad-mouth other reviews I have read, but this is a great product and anyone fascinated with weather should place the order; It's actually well worth the money.

1 out of 5 stars If I could give it a zero...avoid this product   March 8, 2009

Avoid this product. I have wrestled with this horrible device for weeks, scouring the user manual, trying to sort it out. Its functions are not intuitive, you can easily get lost in a maze of sub-functions. First of all, it does not compute true altitude, it computes density altitude, which is meaningful to pilots (of which I am one) but useless as a tool for gauging...altitude (also occasionally handy to pilots.) This morning, after weeks of experimentation trying to calibrate the barometric pressure, the device started beeping every 30 seconds, I don't know why. My neighbor had his burn barrel going for the spring limb clean up. Without a second thought, I tossed the Brunton in. Haven't felt this good in a while. Just wish I had crushed it first. I have never had a piece of electronics actually enrage me (okay, my first laptop, but I eventually got that going right) and strongly urge you not to get this hideous product.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome device   January 14, 2009

I got this for Christmas to use while hiking in the Rocky Mountains and it works great. All the features work as advertised. The functions are all discoverable by pressing the buttons so no need to bring the manual along. Unlike another commenter I found the calibration to be straight forward and easy to do. It is worth noting the the device was calibrated and ready to use out-of-the-box. My only nitpick is the time it takes to reach the current temperature. It took almost 20 minutes for the device to go from 70 degrees to 40 degrees, it would be nice if you could set the averaging time like you can with wind speed. This is only a problem when first going outside, once it reaches the new temperature it's fine. I suspect the slow rate of change is intention to prevent the temperature display from fluctuating while the handling the device.

Overall the device is awesome and I recommend it for any outdoor enthusiast that wants to keep an eye on the weather or know how cold it got last night.

3 out of 5 stars Still working out the "bugs"   November 26, 2007

Well I expected the "world" from my ADC Summit, and despite some features that work quite easily, I still am very confused how to calibrate other functions. The instructions are your typical "you must be dumb" if you can't follow these simple directions, but even my many years of education don't seem to be helping! I am still trying to figure some things out, so I will hold judgement till later.

Later, has come and gone. I contacted Brunton for some help in calibrating current baometric pressure and altitude readings. I received no response, so therefore I would like to lower ranking of this product even more because of the lack of support.

Update: Wow, this thing is much worse than I thought! Back-light does not work, calibration is impossible, and Brunton offers no support. Save your money and find another product!!!! Star rating: 1
