Broke after 4 weeks February 17, 2010 HostilePuppet (San Diego, CALIFORNIA!) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am so dissapointed in this purchase.
I bought this lantern at the beginning of last summer for when I worked at Girl Scout camp as a counselor. I needed something bright so I could lead my kids up the mile long hill to the cabins at night.
This sure as heck is bright. BUT, the way the plastic is put together it creates a weird pattern. Also, it projects out so if you hold it low, you don't get any light infront of you - just at your feet. Ran into a lot of trees and bushes.
Although it is nice that it is collapsable, this function broke almost immeaditly. There was no hard use with it, either. It lived in the cabin storange area where it never got bumped or knocked over. It was used only after campfire, once a week, and the occasional night time breaks.
Once it began to collapse randomly, the plastic around the light broke. Then the batteries wouldn't stay in.
Honestly, if you want a good lantern get the old school propane or LED ones. This one just isn't worth the money.
good little lantern February 9, 2010 cabals ive only had mine for five days, but it seems to be just what i needed. ive ran the lantern for hours everyday trying to run down the batteries and its still going. 16 hours on bright over five days now. ive dropped mine twice already and no problems.
Great Lantern Just Make A Diffuser September 2, 2009 Portezbie (new york city) I really love this lantern. I have owned it for well over a year and banged it around quite a bit and it still works fine. It is also still on its original set of batteries, this thing lasts forever! It is quite bright too. The one downside I would say is the light is actually a bit too bright to look at directly sometimes so a white plastic grocery bag can really help to diffuse the light a bit.
Not the best, but pretty handy August 12, 2009 D. No I bought it since this had a longer lasting LED light including lower battery consumption. However, the downside is that its really not that bright. Especially the high-power setting is almost useless since the difference in light output is minimal compared to the next setting (mid). The ability to pack down to a smaller volumne is nice, but I would have rather enjoyed buying a brighter light since I wont be using it very often.
Great little Lamp July 30, 2009 Boodle65 (Champaign, IL) I used this on a camp trip and the light was great for my small tent. I was easily able to read my book at night with adequate light and turn down the light when not reading. I didn't have problem of the lamp piece easily collapsing into the bottom with a little touch and it actually took a little bit of pressure to get it to collapse. It would be nice to have a button that would lock/unlock it for packing it away. Anyway, I give it 5 stars.
