Great light March 15, 2010 M. Wagner (Bellevue, WA United States) Very bright light. Burst mode is really handy. Also great for hunting with red filter.
Great light for outdoor activities February 6, 2010 James May (michigan) Initially skeptical of the other reviews but was very impressed after first use. Great for taking dogs out for evening walks in the woods. Diffuser option works well. Took dogs out for a walk in a new area and got turned around, was greatful I had this light available and that it worked so well. Have bought 2 more, one for my hunting pack and one for my sons birthday.
Great Light!! January 21, 2010 Mike (NJ) I had one of these lights for several years before I lost it last summer. Super bright and the red lens sure helped keep the bugs off at night while fishing. For Christmas, I got the new Tikka XP2 which has the red light and had a bit more distance. I rate this light "high" because when I got it, it was the best thing going! I've owned several Petzl lights over the years and the quality is great!

Soldier Use Review December 29, 2009 Ryan Bickel 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an active member of the U.S. Army currently deployed in Afghanistan. I first bought this item 6 months ago and I am very impressed with its durability and battery life. AAA batteries aren't exactly in ample supply here but it hasn't been an issue. This headlamp will use the same 3 AAA batteries for longer than a month if you use it on the lowest light setting and don't leave the light on full-time. I had to ultimately throw away batteries that just wouldn't seem to die as long as I left it on the lowest light setting. Even on full-time use, it will last for a good 8 hours straight use on the brightest setting and then still have juice left for the next mission on medium or low. There are three options of brightness for full-time use and also a blinking option good for signaling. It's great for keeping around my neck at night (or on my helmet thanks to the adjustable elastic band) to find where I'm going on a base with no lights or underneath a vehicle, in a cave, climbing a mountain, reading a map, etc. It also has a temporary extra bright button good for blinding friends at night or for the times where you just need a quick, bright beam of light. The only con that I could come up with is that the extra colored lens covers are wide angle covers which means they spread the light out and it leaves a dimmer effect of light, whereas I would prefer an option to have the same intensity light , which is very bright, while using the red or other colored lenses. Overall I like it so much I bought one each for my mother and brother who are avid fishers and mushroom hunters and have a habit of losing flashlights unless they are attached to them.
Great product, highly recommended December 19, 2009 flattenedfrog This light will make you a one-eyed Gort capable of searing the retinas of other mammals.
Additionally, you can strap it onto an ill-tempered sea bass if you have a British secret agent to dispose of in a highly complicated but easily escapable situation.
Seriously, this is a great light with settings for low light, medium, ultra bright, or blinking if you need to warn the humans you're coming to get them. Also, there is a slide that goes across the screen to diffuse the light. As others have noted, the batteries last a long time. The original standard ones on mine finally gave out after two years, so now I'll use my rechargeables. I think this model was recommended by Backpacker magazine several years ago.
Mine did not come with a red filter, but wish it did.
