| Customer Reviews: Compact and lightweight January 19, 2009 Joseph Scalia (NJ, USA) Compact and lightweight option for any indoor or outdoor activity. Rolls up and folds into a long bag which is easily transported. I have used this for both car camping and canoe camping trips. May be tough to get into a kayak, though, and definitely not a backpacking item. The build quality is overall good to very good. It takes about 5 minutes to assemble it right from the bag and assembly is not at all complicated. The only compalaint I have is that there is not enough adjustability to the legs to allow to set it up in uneven terrain. Therefore, it will not be stable
Light weight and portable, but not without flaws. August 30, 2007 Cletus (Omaha, NE) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this for astronomical observations to hold charts, logs, laptop, eyepieces, etc. I love the design ... it assembles in a trice and disassembles and stows nearly as fast. It's extremely compact when rolled into its case, yet plenty spacious for my needs. But the quality of manufacture leaves a lot to be desired.
The legs are expandable, leading you to believe the table will raise to waist height and stay there. But I found that no amount of tensioning of the slip collars was sufficient to keep the legs from slowly retracting when a nominal load was placed on the table surface. Worse, if the legs don't collapse at the same rate, everything on the surface will be tossed to the ground. So caveat #1 is that you should plan to leave the legs retracted, and the table at its lowest height to avoid undesired consequences, especially if the table is to support anything upward of about 5 pounds.
Mechanically, the table is constructed of aluminum extrusions, capped with plastic fittings. But the plastic fittings are merely press-fit into place in most cases, and WILL end up falling out and becoming lost in no time. Some are merely cosmetic, and their loss is not a big deal. Others function to hold the table together when assembled, and are sorely missed. Even the few fittings which are attached with rivets or screws are subject to premature failure of the fasteners, as both plastic and aluminum are very soft materials and normal use takes quite a toll on them. So caveat #2 is to pay close attention during disassembly to ensure that you collect all the pieces; you may be able to put them back on if you have them.
Lastly, I contacted Travel Chair's customer service department to request replacements for a couple of the plastic bosses which attach the ends of the table top, and I was pleased to find them pleasant and accommodating, and willing to send me the parts at no cost. However they never did show up. I ended up fashioning my own out of wooden dowels. But I've since lost enough other components that it's time to replace it. I do like the table, so I'll probably buy another and keep my old one for spare parts.
A great portable table April 7, 2007 W. Scott (FL Gulf Coast, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this table about a month ago and have used it a couple of times and I am very pleased with it. It stores in a bag just a little bigger than a folding chair, it sets up easy, is very sturdy and is even adjustable. It even looks good. Definitely recommended.
Travel Chair Canyon Table Le Grande January 3, 2007 Shane W. Daugherty (Coos Bay, Oregon) The table is great. It is light weight, compact and will work perfect on my camping and rafting trips. My only concern is that it is lightweight, but the price if right.
