I had to return this item because it would not fit an EVGA x58 SLI mobo. Amazon was great with the return, the CSR's were courtous and the money refunded in less than a week.

5 out of 5 stars V10 Performs Betterthe hotter it gets   March 1, 2010

People who are saying that the V10 is only a couple of degrees better than the other best air coolers are missing one important fact. The v10 will not cool much better than the best air coolers, such as the 120 or Cogage, UNTIL the CPU heat gets hotter than 70C. The Peltier system doesn't even function when the CPU temp is under 70 or 75C. If you are hitting 95C OCing your i7 920 C0, you can bring that temp down into the 70s with the V10.

I've had this cooler on my Core i7 920 for four months now. I'm overclocked at 3.8ghz, and I can run Prime95, eight threads, all night long and never reach 70 celsius. Beware of negative reviews that are just citing "information" cribbed from online reviews, or from people who just want to rationalize why they don't want to pay a higher price for a cooler. Is a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme RT 1366 almost as good? Yes, if you lap the base and add a second fan. Then the V10, as it comes out of the box, is "only" a couple of degrees better. I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend hours and make a mess trying to lap a Thermalright base so it's even close to the excellent finish the V10 has just the way it comes. The V10 is the best air cooler you can get if you want to take it out of the box, bolt it on, and get on with what you're building your computer to *do*. At most the nay-sayers can argue about whether its enough better to justify the higher price. It's extremely well made, works perfectly just the way it comes, and can't be surpassed without getting into a water cooling setup costing two or three times as much. (And the V10 will never leak and screw up your system and your carpet.)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Cooler!   April 9, 2009

This cooler replaced a Thermaltake v1 on my core i7 920, and i am now able to overclock to a stable 4.0 GHz with temps under 70C, while with my v1 i was unable to go higher than 3.5 GHz while staying under 90C. I would highly recommend this cooler to anyone wishing for a huge overclock without the hassle of watercooling, as it not only cools my cpu, it keeps my 12GB of RAM cool, and has lowered my chipset temps by at least 5C. It fits beautifully in my Thermaltake Armor+ full tower case.

1 out of 5 stars Did i say Big? Big paperweight   March 29, 2009

This cooler performs a mere 1C or 2C better than the current top performers.

First factor is BIG as you can see from the pictures, this thing is way to big for a normal configuration, most ram manufacturers have ramsinks that raise 1" or so above the stick and will get in the way of this cooler. So compatibility issues arises here.

Second this thing draws way too much power due to the TEC unit, having the TEC on has proven performance increase of 2C. So in summary the cooler is not able to draw all the heat out of the TEC unit while the TEC unit consumes 70w according to the data sheet (without the fans), a OCed core i7 produces more than 125w so here we see that the 70w is not enough to cool down the cpu at work on paper, in reality it'll just make the heatsink hotter and hotter while decreasing the performance.

Third the mounting system of the current Cooler Master are really really bad. Its barely better than the cross mounting of thermalright but having ot take the motherboard out just to install the cooler makes me turn away from this one. Each side is tighten with a nut so you have to be careful to apply even preasure on to the cpu. Noctua NH-U12p is a much better solution. The mounting system is cheap and the screws that comes with them are easily stripped.

Fourth price, did i say this thing cost more than the top performers TRUE or Noctua or the near megahalem. $140 for a cooler that performs 1C better than the competition while the competition costs less than half. $140 can buy you basic water cooling, a video card, a set of ram, nice hard drives, a very good case, may be a license of windows and so many more things...

Fith DEAD AIR, this cooler has 2 inner fans, both are blowing so there is a place with dead air, no matter how you configure this it'll create dead air spots where the fans are moving creating a vacuum with no airflow. The shroud makes things worse. None of the configurations push/push, push/pull, pull/push or pull/pull.

So all these are reasons to stay away from the cooler, although it'll add few points to your pride when people say "OMFGz!! the cooler is a BEAST!!" but if you want that make sure you get a windowed case. That may be the only reason to buy this product, althought not sure if its worth all the hassles and the price.

I'm no hater of cooler master, they make great cases and their customer support is exceptional, i am currently running a CM 690 case but future builds will also be cm cases while i recommend their cases to anyone i wouldn't recommend this product. CM coolers are ok in the mid range just do some research before its too late.
