Amazon.com Product Description
Originally manufactured by Coleman from 1954 to 1994, the classic steel-belted cooler makes a comeback in a big way as part of the company's centennial tradition. The original steel-belted cooler was revered for its traditional look, feel, and strength, as well as its amazing performance. This time around, however, Coleman made it even better by updating the design, adding a stainless-steel lid, case, and hardware, and beefing up the insulation. The result is a cooler that bests the competition by a wide margin. The 54-quart cooler's construction features include a stainless-steel lid and case that provide durability and protection for your food items; large, sturdy stainless-steel handles with rubber comfort grips for easy transport; a new solid-steel latch that seals better while still securing the contents; and stainless-steel hinges and screws that resist rust and breakage.

On the inside, the cooler includes a durable base and liner that are easy to clean, along with a leakproof, rust-resistant drain that empties quickly. Completely redesigned for today's active lifestyles, the cooler measures 24.25 by 16.75 by 16.75 inches (W x H x D) and carries a limited six-year warranty.

About Coleman
The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.

2 out of 5 stars looks great.......but functionality is terrible, hinges break   February 4, 2010

Many people have probably written reviews after having this great looking cooler for about a week and maybe one good tailgate. Yes you get comments on the look, but as I have read previously this thing is terrible. It does not stay latched, so why it has a metal latch on the front is beyond me. The drain plug does pop open fairly easily and at unwanted times. Why didn't they make this with the screw on type plug? Who knows! I've had this for about 2.5 years. I don't use it heavily by any means, probably less than 10 times a year, but the hinges on the lid have started to separate after about 5-10 uses. Almost like the lid is too heavy for the hinges and they are now bending. I am not impressed and I would not suggest buying this cooler. Plus, the price has gone up from $100 to $150 in a couple years.....that is ridiculous. If you really need a metal cooler buy an old coleman on ebay, they blow this junk out of the water.

Also, ice doesn't last more than about 8 hours in this. If you need to keep stuff cold for days then buy and Igloo Marine!

4 out of 5 stars Vintage looking cooler   January 30, 2010

This cooler keeps stuff really cold for a long time. Easy to drain. My only issue is that I have a little trouble opening and closing the catch. It does not catch right. Maybe because I got it at a bargain on the internet. But it is a slight enough problem. Worth the effort for how it cools.

5 out of 5 stars Proof is in Having and Using   January 30, 2010

After loaning our cooler to our daughter and son-in-law for many get-togethers and afternoons of boating, we finally decided to get them their own for Christmas. After extensive research, we found the best promotional price on Amazon (note that the stainless steel finish usually costs more than the red or green), we jumped at it. Trust me the name and quality cannot be beat, and the investment is worth it. The entire transaction (purchase/delivery) was smooth and the recipients were very appreciative.

If you want quality and long-lasting ice, regardless of the season or the occasion, this is the cooler for you!

5 out of 5 stars Coleman Cooler   November 14, 2009

After having a number of plastic coolers, I opted for the classic Coleman Steel cooler. Although heavier than plastic, it is more sturdy and appears to keep the contents cooler much longer. Would recommend to anyone.

3 out of 5 stars Looks good, bad parts   November 12, 2009

I purchased this item as a gift. It was well recieved, however the clasp on the front did not work properly so now I have been trying to get it replaced and it has been almost 3 months now!
