These handwarmers are reusable and work great. My daughter is a harpist and uses them to warm her hands when necessary at various concert venues. The purchasing experience was wonderful with very very fast shipping.

The second time I put the product in boiling water, which you have to do to recharge it, it split open, rendering it useless!

It takes me about 15 minutes to recharge each of these, because water doesn't come boiling out of the faucet and it's better to cook them too long than to have to do it twice.
They seem to put out noticeable heat for about 30 minutes. It's continually coming down from a very high start, but it's a very useful amount of heat. I stuff one of these into each sock around my ankle and snap them right as I leave work (on my bike). They keep my feet pretty toasty all the way home. The iron based throw away warmers aren't as effective, but you get enough time for a long ride with those.
I've had one of these set off "on its own" once. So that actually does happen more often than I'd like.
They're pretty big and clunky for a lot of used, but the packaging seems pretty rugged. I'm not really worried about tearing it open.
All in all, they're a good source for short term warmth. You get a lot more heat from these than throw aways, but it doesn't last for long. These would make a great emergency item to use when you need your gloves off to do something. They're not good for an all day hike or something like that. I really doubt they end up being cheaper by the time you include all the heat you need to boil a quart of water for 10 minutes...

Only provides heat for 45 minutes. A hassle to reset (heat in pot on stove). It does provide a lot of heat quickly.
