Bike Touring Must Have January 27, 2010 Steven M. Bell (Onekama,MI) I went out and bought a set of these to see how they were made and check out how well they function.I was in for the orginizing time of my life. They are well made and strong.I put everything from tools to socks in them and they came back for more.Needless to say I bought three more stes for my up coming cross country cycle tour.My Panniers are big and these help to keep everything where I want it.I can reach in and get what I want when I want it.They are reasonably water proof also.I can put them in my panniers and not worry about rain, puddles not even the occasional hurricane can get things wet.
Great investment for intro backpackers January 11, 2010 Lindsay F. Feldman (Delaware Water Gap, NJ USA) A great little purchase for me. Most backpacks aren't waterproof, so you need to line them with a garbage bag to keep things dry. I was picking up a compass for one of my first solo trips and saw these at a small price, figured I'd give them a go. They're thin and light, and seem to be durable for the price.
Overall, for camping and backpacking these are highly-functional. I spent time with a guy on the AT (a section hiker who was in NJ from Virginia) who also had a set. He had one sea-to-summit $20+ dry bag, and he said that the OP bags were just as good for his money, and he used them to organize his pack, too.
What I did with these is the large green bag holds my food, the red bag holds my first aid kit (compartmentalized into a few ziplocs for organization and extra protection), and the blue I'll use for my spare clothes (it doubles as my pillow at night!).
My maps and electronics go in new-ish Ziplocs, and my sleeping bag and camp clothes & socks go in a Large Sea-To-Summit dry bag with compression straps. This means I don't need a garbage bag to line my pack.
I also bear-bag the food bag and have yet to have problems with it (though all my food can get wet since it's all in individual bags as well.) If you always use the same bag for food, you don't have to worry about the stuff sacks you sleep with attracting critters.
Happy Trails!
Ultimate WET Sack December 26, 2009 Mr. K (Arkansas USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
You get what you pay, and this is true of the Outdoor Products dry sack. I just returned from a one-night backpacking trip and was out in a thunderstorm. I put my food in the orange bag (sealed it) and then put it inside the green bag and sealed that down. Hung my food bag, thinking it was dry til morning. Nope. It rained through the night and completely soaked through both bags. Not a stitch was dry. Both bags were dripping wet inside and out as if they were made of cotton. You can do much better for just a little more money, and your food will be dry. Thank goodness I was only out for one night.
Good for everyday non-rugged use. November 27, 2009 RM (Wynnewood, PA) I've used 2 sets of these dry sacks for a year without disappointment. I generally use them to keep items from getting wet in my bookbag when I occasionally walk in rain. They also keep the items organized. They have been very helpful by keeping small textbooks and papers dry.
They do not appear highly rugged but kept well for a year in my bookbag with out any tears.
I also kept my wallet and digital camera in the small blue sack in my pocket while walking through intermittent downpours for 10 minutes; everything stayed dry.
However, I don't think they're meant for continuous water exposure or immersion in water.
Surprisingly useful October 7, 2009 J. A. Cosentino Jr. (Santa Cruz, CA USA) I guess you can call me a "belt-and-suspenders" guy because I bought these bags as a backup, just in case my new dry pack failed. I figured that these bags, all puffed up, would keep their contents dry and the failed pack afloat. Well, I didn't get to test my Plan B because the pack did fine, but these bags worked great on their own anyway. They served to compartmentalize my dry pack, which had no internal dividers or organizers. I was able to organize somewhat - the little blue bag was perfect for my lunch and snacks. I don't know what possessed me but I put my metal water bottles in one of these bags, and it's a good thing too because it turned out one of them leaks! So you won't go wrong with these dry sacks, and you really can't beat them at the price.
