Amazon.com Product Description Ideal for car or air travel, the compact, adjustable Therm-a-Rest lumbar pillow gives extra support to your spine and back muscles, improving your posture and reducing pain. The pillow is filled with soft urethane foam that offers impressive self-inflating properties. As a result, you can easily adjust the pillow one-handed to customize your comfort. Plus, the pillow packs small to save space. The lumbar pillow--which is covered with a soft polyester fleece--measures 14 by 7 by 3 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 3.5 ounces. About Therm-a-Rest In 1971, Seattle aerospace giant Boeing announced the largest layoff in company history, resulting in 50,000 people losing their jobs. Among the jobless were Jim Lea and Neil Anderson, both engineers who were eager to get back to work. Turning to friend John Burroughs--an avid mountain climber--for ideas, Burroughs suggested a better sleeping mattress, specifically one that was lightweight, warm, and comfortable. Taking their inspiration from gardening cushions that expelled air as the gardener shifted his or her weight, the duo took a piece of open-cell foam and sandwiched it between two pieces of airtight fabric. Using an old sandwich maker, they melted the fabric onto the foam, creating a bond that was perfectly airtight. After adding a valve, their prototype was ready to test. Within two years, Lea and Anderson had partnered with Burroughs to begin production of Therm-a-Rest pads, the world's first self-inflating mattress. Under the name Cascade Designs, the private, family-owned company has grown into one of the most respected outdoor manufacturers in the world. Still based in Seattle, Cascade Designs sticks to the same fundamental principles it was founded upon: providing relevant and innovative products, exceptional quality, and service that exceeds your expectations.

Pretty good February 6, 2010 Bob (Orlando, FL USA) Hi I bought both this one and the The Original McKenzie Self-Inflating Airback - #710, the difference in between the two is that this one is not as wide as the McKenzie, but seems to puff out more. My problem is that being 6ft 2in tall, I had to keep moving it up. If you are tall (my case 6'2"tall), I'd say go for the other one, The Original McKenzie Self-Inflating Airback - #710.
Either way the product did exactly what it's meant to do. I was on a 15 hour flight (I had to take this one because before the trip I erroneously :-) showed my parents both and they kept them, so had to order an additional one and this one would ship faster).
therm-a-rest lumbar pillow February 2, 2010 SuzyQ (Pennsylvania) I thought this pillow worked pretty well for me. I leave it in the car so it's there for when I'm driving or just a passenger. It's easy to use. I set the air to the firmness I like and place it wherever I need it on my back. However, I wish the price is more reasonable.
Perfect lumbar pillow for traveling January 6, 2010 Allison Clark I bought this pillow because two hours into an 8+ hour flight I would want to cry from the pain in my lower back and sides. I used the pillow on a round-trip flight to Italy, and I literally forgot I'd ever had any issues. There was no pain! I honestly couldn't believe it.
I was in a car accident a few years ago, so sitting down for a long period of time (flying or otherwise) causes my lower back/sides to ache. Massaging doesn't get rid of the pain, and standing only stops the pain until I sit down again. I did not have the pain flying to AND from Italy. I still can't believe this tiny pillow did so much!
As others have mentioned you don't need to fill it up as much as you THINK you need to fill it up. You'll find yourself doing a lot of adjusting if you put too much air in it. Just unscrew the cap, let it fill for 5 seconds or so, then screw it tight again. No huffing and puffing (unlike traditional travel pillows).
It is 100% worth the price. You will not regret it.
Wonderful Item! December 17, 2009 Carolyn L. Meacham I just took an international flight with this little lumbar pillow and it made all the difference. I love the way it rolls down into a small space and it really helped my lower back problems.
Lumbar pain free September 25, 2009 PeterB (Hampshire, IL) Purchased this self inflating lumbar support before extended Italy trip. Excellent size for lower back support. Quality material, feel and the self inflating feature are it's best attributes. Used on 25 hours of flight time as well as for driving all over Italy. Although it is self inflating and works well, I blew in additional air just before taking off and then adjusted as cabin pressure increased by simplly letting air out during flight to find the best level of support comfort. Just the right and proper size for the lower back. Used in conjunction with the Travel Rest Ultimate Inflatable Pillow, cheap soft earplugs and sleep mask... and I was most comfortable and pain free in ecomomy class seating. Highly recommended.
