5 out of 5 stars Great Bag - Met our carry on requirements   December 28, 2008
S. Bourque (Montreal, Qc, Ca)
Luved this bag. We had this bag for a back-pack trip in asia. We were able to expand and compact bag depending on use. We would compact for plane ride hiding the straps and making it more profesionnal looking. Had no problems for carry on with this bag (air canada, air asia, singapore airlines, pacific airways) That was also usefull when we would arrive in nice hotels (I was using hotel points).
This bag can hold lots (especially if you're using compression bags for your clothing). It can also hold little without looking too odd by titening the straps on top. There are 2 mesh pockets inside and 2 outer zipped pockets. The back and hip straps are ok, they do not compare to the high end ones but are fine if you plan on having the pack on a few hours per day.
The conversion from back-pack to sleek travel bag takes 2 minutes.
Would buy again.

4 out of 5 stars 5 Week Europe Trip Pack   August 9, 2008
Alexander A. Henkels III (Ft. Washington, PA)
Took this pack and a smaller osprey pack as a day pack packed inside the larger one. The bag was pretty decent. It was comfortable to wear had lots of space and held its shape well. It had adjustable straps which proved very useful. My only wish was that this back had more pockets on the inside. It has one deep but small pocket at the top and one large zipper down but shallow pocket on the back face and two mesh pockets of the inside within the main zipper down compartment. I managed to store everything in this bag so no complaints as far as storage space. My girlfriend bought the Rick Steves back and I noticed that her bag did not have adjustable shoulder straps so she could not pull the bag closer to her upper body so she was constantly pulling the bag closer to her shoulders which seemed unpleasant. So I was happy that this back could really be tightened well and fitted to my body. The only other cautionary warning I could give is to be careful how you pack your bag. If you put too much weight in the bag it will sink to the bottom and make it harder to carry so make sure you distribute the weight as evenly as possible; it would have been nice to see some sort of dividers in the bag to counter this.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Bag for Europe   June 5, 2008

This is truly a great bag. I took it to Europe for a 5 week trip and it was perfect. I could fit everything I need in it and it fit in most airplane carry on bins. It has the perfect amount of compartments and is adjustable everywhere I needed it to be. I'm a 5'8" woman who weighs around 140, medium build. The shoulder straps were comfortable and adjustable, as was the lower belt. The handle is very strong and durable, the zipper never got caught or snagged. I can't say enough good things about this pack.

4 out of 5 stars Great Travel Pack   September 24, 2007

I originally bought this Osprey Porter 46 Pack to use as carry on luggage for a 3 day trip I'm going to be taking to Paris next month. I have had the opportunity to use it once so far during a 3 day, 2 night stay in Joshua Tree National Monument. This pack held just enough clothing and gear without being too bulky. It was nice to have the backpack straps, so that I had my hands free to carry other gear as well between the car and the hotel room. The side and top handles were also very handy. The pack is roomy and seems to be very well made. The straightjacket compression straps as well as the foam sidewalls should be a great help when trying to make the pack as small as possible so that it will fit easily into the airplane overhead compartment during my trip to Paris. Sizewise, the pack sits just even with my shoulders at the top and rests comfortably on my hips (when using the hip straps) and I'm 6 ft. tall. Overall, this is a great pack especially when you take the relatively low price into cosideration.
